Many people report getting diarrhea on the carnivore diet.
There are a couple common reasons people who start the carnivore diet get diarrhea. It doesn’t happen to everyone, and if it happens to you, you can take steps to stop it.
The number one cause of diarrhea when starting the Carnivore diet is excess bile. When you go from a high carb diet to a high fat diet your body will begin producing large amounts of it, and that often leads to diarrhea. Many people struggle with this when staring any low-carb/keto diet.
Another possible contributor to the diarrhea is the amount of water you’re drinking. If you’re drinking too much water (easy to do if you’re heavily salting your meat), then that could be contributing to your diarrhea as well.
Regardless of the root cause, don’t freak out and break the diet. Stick with it, and make some adjustments. Pick some leaner cuts of meat, and don’t drink when you’re not thirsty. See how it goes.
This stuff isn’t quite a science, and many peoples’ bodies respond differently. At the same time, you’re not alone. On the flip side, many people starting the carnivore diet experience (or think they experience) constipation. If that’s you, check out this article.
